In the Mood For Love
Intention & Overflow of Emotion
A booklet celebrating the reignited interest in Wang Kar-wai’s film, In the Mood for Love. The booklet contains Nancy Blake’s analysis of repetition within the film and its corresponding stills. This booklet was created to be read with intention. The pace of the reader is determined by the tone of the design—simple complexity leads to slower, more meaningful reading.
Publication Design 2022
I wanted the design of the booklet to mimic the film. The cinematography is lovely, and almost distracts from the scandal of the film. Infidelity is masked by beautiful colors and soothing piano. The booklet imitates this concept—simplicity masking tension.
The typography of the booklet is set almost to the edge of the page. It feels just a little too close. There is no pattern to the second number on the left pages creating mystery, yet the booklet feels quiet. It whispers Nancy Blakes analysis.
